Happy New Year!
(Devoted to the New Year party of 1998)

History
Russians celebrate several holidays near the year boundary: December 25 - Catholic Christmas; December 31 - January 1 - The New Year; January 7 - Russian Christmas; January 13 - The Old New Year. Out of these holidays "The New Year" is most widely celebrated. The tradition to celebrate this event and decorate the New Year Tree starts from the order of Peter The Great.

The New Year is usually treated as a family party, however many people prefer to celebrate the party together. As an example, there was a nice tradition of our group to celebrate "The Equator" party (which happens to be on a New Year) at my Dmitry's dacha (Summer House) in Russia.

New Year time in Miami has some special flavor - it is still hot out here! And it is a perfect time to spend with friends on the beach enjoying the Sun and the Ocean. Let us start the New Year celebration this way -- go to Miami Beach in the morning, December, 31 and have fun! See how great it was last year! Those who want to rest before the Night party should feel free to leave the beach at any time.

Everybody is invited to meet 1998 year!

A traditional party is going to take place at the apartment of Dima Vasilevsky and Grigory Gridin at 10pm. (Driving directions are here) Of course, it is going to be unforgettable! Great music and entertinement will be offered to you. Come and you will not complain! If you can not be on time, you are very welcome to come later during the New Year night. But don't miss the most interesting part!

Meal
Do we want great food and drink?

Every Russian party offers a great meal! Of course, the most valuable food - is hommade. To create an excellent New Year table everybody is welcome (and encouraged) to bring a dish. If you do not have time to prepare a dish yourself, you may bring drinks or something.

Fireworks
Make fun for our kids!

Who like the New Year celebration most of all? Who waits for it all the year! Who is extremely happy of the decorations, preparations and all the athmosphere of celebration? There will be great fireworks for kids. It is going to start at 9 pm near Dima's and Grisha's place.

Gift lottery
Do we want a New Year Gift?

Another great New Year tradition is to prepare presents for our friends. The gifts are usually delivered after the midnight. This means the love and apreciation of people. Let us express our best feelings! The idea is to organize a "Gift Lottery": Everyone will bring a gift. All gifts will be put together then randomly drawn and given to everybody. So, everyone will get a New Year gift together with a wonderfull New Year mood!

All presents will be gathered at Dima's and Grisha's place at the beginning of the Night party. All them have to be well wrapped and prepared. The average value of a single gift is suggested $3-$5. Let us have fun!
